Race Categories

At the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, the race program gets bigger and bolder every year. In 2012 motor sport fans have seven feature races on offer:

V8 Supercars

The mountain at Bathurst may be iconic, but the drivers say the challenge of Adelaide's street circuit is perhaps even greater and the taste of victory equally sweet.

Fans get to see two great 250 kilometre races, two electrifying starts, two dramatic finishes. Double the value.

V8 Development Series

Take the time to watch a Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series race and you'll see that calling it second-division is selling it short. While it's a support category at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, many drivers are good enough to make the headline race.

Australian GT Championship

The Australian GT category that fans witnessed at the 2011 Clipsal 500 Adelaide has undergone a major revamp, and the 2012 Clipsal 500 Adelaide and its fans are the BIG winners.

With new ownership, new management, and new rules, the Australian GT Category is set to rise to new motorsport heights with increased grid sizes, more races, and most importantly more of the world most exotic race cars to thrill the fans.

The 2012 Clipsal 500 Adelaide will see new models from  Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, Ford, Lamborghini and possibly Nissan while crowd favourites Mosler, Porsche and Lotus will once again grace the Parklands Circuit.

Mercedes will have their SLS AMG Gull Wing GT3 car, Ferrari will have the sexy  458, Audi will have a new R8 LMS GT3, and Lamborghini will have the monstrous LP600, not to mention the Australian racing debut of local boy Kevin Weeks‘s Ford GT.

V8 Utes

16 Fords and 16 Holden's will line the streets of Adelaide to take part in the event, which is where the series originally launched in 2001.

Nine of the 32 driver line-up have former V8 Supercar experience including: Cameron McConville, Nathan Pretty, Gary Baxter, Grant Johnson, Andrew Fisher, Charlie O'Brien, Ryan Hansford, Chris Pither and David Sieders making this year one of the toughest line-ups to date.

Touring Car Masters

In 2012, the Touring Car Masters will return with a star line-up extending to welcome past racing champions and eye-catching ‘new’ vehicles, some expected to capture the spotlight, their models never before seen in the series.

Always guaranteed to bring action, heartache and unforgettable memories, this jewel in the series calendar brings no doubt that another year will see a stronger field, all vying to stand atop the podium in the atmosphere that is the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

The Touring Car Masters are set to fire up on the streets of Adelaide once more, with guaranteed action and entertainment as the classic muscle and exotic race cars of the popular category celebrate their sixth season at the place where it all began, the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

Aussie Racing Cars

Aussie Racing Cars are half the size caricature versions of V8 Ford falcons, Holden commodore's and Toyota TRD Aurion's. They are purpose built rear wheel drive race cars powered by a YAMAHA 1.2 litre, 125 horsepower twin cam engine with sequential gear box which scream to 11,500 RPM!

Standing just on a meter high, the cars are small but their performance is breathtaking. 0-100 Kph is achieved in just over 4 seconds and the top speed is in excess of 230kph.
