WHINCUP WINS ON HOLDEN TEAMVODAFONE DEBUT
Reigning V8 Supercars and Clipsal 500 Adelaide Champion Jamie Whincup has commenced the 2010 season in the finest possible manner by taking victory in both Round 1 and Round 2 at the spectacular Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The switch from Ford to Holden for TeamVodafone for both Whincup and team mate Craig Lowndes went virtually without a hitch with the duo achieving a one-two finish in the first round and Whincup winning the second with Lowndes in fifth position.
However, the domination predicted by Holden racing chief Simon McNamara didn't come to fruition with the official Holden Racing Team having a disastrous week-end.
In the first race at Abu Dhabi HRT driver Will Davison who was second in the 2009 Championship didn't finish, while team mate Garth Tander crossed the line in a lowly 26th position.
In the second race things didn't go any better for the HRT pair with Davison finishing 14th and Tander failing to finish.
Ford's fortunes were kept relatively high with FPR's Mark Winterbottom coming away from the weekend with a third and a second place, while fellow blue oval driver Shane Van Gisbergen delivered the first podium of his career taking third place in the second race.
Rounds 3 and 4 of the Championship will be held in Bahrain this weekend (February 25-27) before racing at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide from March 11-14.
